Paris...no "perhaps"

Dear Sensible One,

WE are going to Paris!!! Can you believe it? Our friends have all said, "Go!Go!Go!" Even people we don't know have popped on line to comment and say, "Don't look back!"

We are all dreamers searching for the great adventure, but few people actually take the step and go for it. You, my dear, have learned well from me. You have learned to listen to your heart and step through the fear and apprehension. You are full of life to be lived--not tomorrow or next year, but right now...Today!!

Congratulations! You pressed the "buy" button even when you tried to tell us 'it's not practical.' As Tess said, "Screw the crockpot!" Seattle will still be here when we return. So celebrate this time. Read those guide books and fabulous memoirs and novels. Listen to your French tapes and mentally pack your suitcase. Because, my dear Sensible One, WE ARE GOING TO PARIS!!!!"

love, lucy

Practical schmactical.

Practicality and efficiency are two giant words we use to keep ourselves in the land of grey conformity.

By all means go and enjoy!

I was in Paris for a brief visit and don't care to go back. However, the experience is in my treasury of experiences. When the bicycles of the Tour de France pass the Place de la Concorde, I can watch and almost see the hotel where we stayed. From the camera position you can walk up four blocks and over two to enjoy a fine Vietnamese dinner in an intimate setting. Such memories are fun.

In travel, and Life, you really need to be present to win. I expect you will be a winner on the adventure.

It's been a few year since I last watched the movie and my memory of the images and storyline are a bit fuzzy, but....

As I read your postI was thinking about Audrey Hepburn in "Funny Face."

I’m catching up in Google Reader this morning … realizing you’ve undergone significant changes since I last visited. Your journey inspires me and I’m happy you’re sharing it here. Reading the last 8 posts all at once provides a unique perspective of “the whole” that’s different from what it might have been like to follow the process daily and comment along the way. I’m trying to let that be okay for me as I write this response now … forgiving myself for living my live as it comes and missing out … laughing as I type this. Sheesh I can be ridiculous at times!

Back to the point … the questions you pose in “Imagine” could keep me occupied for a lifetime and reflect much of my own journaling throughout the decades. Revisiting my life in my 101 Things About Me post at Small Reflections and concurrent recent “musings” at Sacred Ruminations illuminate trends in my journey. Where to go next is up in the air, but I suspect my journey is with WORDS rather than images … at least for now.

I so relate to the issues you raise in “Shadows” … and my own search for “balance” (shared previously in comments here as well as in posts on my blogs) grows out of my own questions along these lines. I’m reminded of the story of the fellow who was looking for his lost keys under the lamppost … asking passers by for help … until someone asked if he was sure this was where he lost them and he answered that he had lost them in the shadowy doorway, but the light was so poor there.

How interesting that I posted the same the quote at Sacred Ruminations that you saw at Anchors and Masts recently … spurring you to “go for it” and consider traveling to Paris on your own. I understand the comment you left there better now that I’ve caught up here and once again smile at the serendipitous nature of the connections around us all the time … when we take notice.

This comment is becoming a “post” so won’t say much about “fellowship” other than to validate the conclusion you reached in that piece and add that “What others think of us is none of our business.” I place it in quotes because I know someone famous said that, but the source escapes me now. Your “process” of reflecting and navigating feels so familiar to me … and I can’t help but wonder how many of us search in the same ways. The photographs and collages add to your ideas … and I’m so happy for you that you’re going to Paris!!!
Hugs and blessings,

Lucy, Can't resist leaving another post to your comments because Storyteller brought up so many thoughts for me today. Her "living as it comes and missing out" in particular.

I have been to Paris several times - I don't know that you know that - but it was in a time of my life that I was living life as it came and enjoying it but missing out on a lot! As you mention, seeing the movies "devil wears prada" I so related to those Paris scenes AND in particular to the young woman's resolve to really "live her own life!"

The tips from your readers about what to see and where to go are so delicious sounding to me - it could almost twist my arm to come along. But that is not to be "this time":)

I'm on a wonderful, paying full attention to my days holiday right now and so grateful that I've learned to pay attention to all of the extraordinary (and sometimes NOT) issues and events that come into my life and also into yours:)
