generous and gentle

"Light is incredibly generous,
but also gentle.
When you attend to the way the dawn comes,
you learn how light can coax the dark.
The first fingers of light appear on the horizon,
and ever so deftly and gradually,
they pull the mantle of darkness away from the world."

Beautiful photo; lovely words - reminded me of the start of John's gospel: "The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it."

Maybe on dark days we need to pay more attention to the light?

Very lovely.
I think of Shakespeare (from The Merchant of Venice): See how far the little candle throws its beams? So shines a good deed in a naughty world.
It always strikes me how one small candle's light fills a room, gently, in all directions, to the furthest corner. Light is so beautiful that way -- indescrimately generous, as John O'Donohue points out.

Lucy - thanks for sharing this JO'D piece along with the beautiful photography. Generous and gentle, light and shadow, coaxing the dawn - sounds like awakening the creative spirit doesn't it?

ER--my own tendency is to move toward the light and get out of the darkness. i am really working on finding that interplay between the two. much easier said that done!

barbara--and without the darkness, the little light could not shine so brightly.

SS--awakening...always awakening YES!
